New work and training opportunities will be on offer to South Bristolians thanks to a scheme funded by the West of England Combined Authority, led by Metro Mayor Dan Norris.
18 new jobs will be created while 100 students, aged between 14 and 18, from South Bristol schools and colleges will benefit from experience of work activities.
Over 100 local small businesses will be supported through the scheme. They will be given help with their recruitment procedures to encourage local people to take up job vacancies as well as linking them with local schools and colleges.
Metro Mayor Dan Norris said:
“There are many people living in South Bristol with so much to offer. Meanwhile there are businesses in Filwood, Hartcliffe and Withywood saying they can’t fill job vacancies. This is one way to try and bridge that gap.”
Bristol City Council will deliver the project. Cllr Asher Craig, Deputy Mayor, said:
“Workforce for the Future will offer the south of the city some much needed support especially as we recover from the pandemic. It will enable people to train or retrain and, in some cases, get back into employment. For many young people, this scheme represents the first step into the world of work, and they will hopefully go on to further develop their skills, knowledge and confidence for the future.”
The scheme is open to businesses with less than 250 employees based in Bedminster, Bishopsworth, Filwood, Hartcliffe & Withywood, Hengrove & Whitchurch Park, Knowle, Southville, Stockwood, Windmill Hill, Totterdown and Brislington.
